As a reformed accountant, I am one of the many people that found my way accidentally into to supply chain over the course of my career, and have found it to be a rewarding and enjoyable path.

As part of the Supply Chain and Logistics Skills group in Ireland we are looking at ways of improving the awareness of the breadth and diversity in supply chain careers.  This includes a potential outreach programs to students, at the end of their secondary education.

In April, we had an opportunity to present to the national conference of the Institute of Career Guidance counsellors which was well received, and we will be following up with information for them around careers in supply chain.  We are also considering the development of a program of engagement for students in their senior cycle.  Part of this engagement would include site visits from interested students, to companies in their area, to learn about careers in supply chain.  We would love to gauge interest from companies in participating in hosting visits during a national ‘Supply Chain Week’.

If you have experiences that you can share on what you currently do to or you believe that your company would be willing to participate in such a program let us know.  Your inputs would be very welcome.

For those of you who are based outside of Ireland, we would be delighted to hear of similar programs running in your area.
